1. Wash the New Stoneware
First and foremost you need to wash the pizza stone properly. The packaged model might have a few preservatives or chemicals to keep the surface smooth and shiny. Wash the clay stone slab with water first and then gently wipe it with a cotton cloth.
You can put the stone in the dishwasher for the first time. However, we advise you not to use soap on the surface as it tampers with the seasoning of the stone. Thereafter, pat the stoneware dry using a towel and let it rest. Do not use any non-stick aerosol spray on the baking surface affects the seasoning.
2.Seasoning the Stone
Once you have cleaned and dried the stoneware, the next step is to season it. For this step, you prep the stone before preparing the food and popping it in the oven. Preheat the stone in oven to 425-degrees F. The stone will take double the time your oven requires to reach the desired temp. So, keep it in the oven to preheat for 30 minutes if your oven takes 15 minutes to preheat. The Pampered Chef model has a high thermal resistance capacity, i.e. you can pop the stone inside the oven even when it’s refrigerated. But we would advise you against that.
3.Prepare the Dough
Now comes the tricky part. You can either get the frozen pizza dough from the supermarket or make your own. Honestly, we recommend the latter option. Frozen pizzas don’t taste as good and are not as healthy as a freshly made pizza base.
Roll out the flour, add some water, and then mix it to prepare the dough. Make sure that the consistency and texture of the dough are just right. You can also add the seasonings and flavors to the base to enhance its taste. The Pampered Chef pizza stone measures 15 inches and can easily accommodate a large size pizza or pie.
4.Place the dough on the stone surface
Once the dough is rolled out and prepared, place it gently on the seasoned pan. We will talk about seasoning the pan later in the article. The stone gets better with time, as the seasonings accumulate and enhance its efficiency. After you have put the dough out on the pan roll it out to the appropriate shape and size you want. The 15-inch surface is more than enough for cooking large sized pizzas, huge pies, cookies, and other baked goodies.
5.Add the Toppings
Done with the last step, now comes the fun part. Yes, after you have placed the dough and your pizza has taken its basic shape the next step is your decorate it. Add all the toppings you need, this includes veggies, cheese, sauces, tomatoes, spices, and seasonings. The clay surface is non-sticky and absorbs most the moisture and oil from the pizza, leaving it crispy and flaky.
6.Pop it in the oven
Before you place the dough on the surface, you need to prepare the dish. Fill the inside of the stoneware with vegetable oil; cover about 2/3 of each compartment. Next, place the pan in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes. Remove the pan (put on your mitts of course) and put it aside on the wire rack to cool off. Let it rest that way for a couple of hours, the pan must completely absorb the oil. Pour the remaining oil and store it for future use. Wipe the inside of the dish with a paper towel, the stoneware baking tray is ready for use.
7.Removing the Stone
Popped the pizza into the oven and set the timer. Now all you can do is wait for it to cook. The dough slowly rises and turns into golden brown as the cheese melts and oozes from the slight cracks in the crust. Once the timer hits, you know the pizza is ready to be devoured.
The Pampered Chef pizza stone comes with inbuilt handles on either side of the framework. This allows you to move the stone about easily without having to burn your hands. Of course, you’ll be wearing the mittens, but the handles keep your hands off the stone. You are nowhere near the hot part of the stone dish.
8.Cleaning the Stone
Cleaning the pizza stone is not all that difficult considering the non-stick surface hardly has any dough sticking to it. Pampered Chef Stone package comes with a pan scraper that helps you in scraping out the remains of the pizza or pie easily without damaging the surface. All you need is a bit of hot water and a scraping tool, don’t use soap.
